Informed by the ideas of young people from the Thornhill area of Southampton, the film uses graphic images to communicate the potential risks of putting a condom on after penetration has already begun or taking it off before sex has finished.
‘Word of Mouth’ is a one minute film for distribution via mobile phones, as well as for screening online and at events, made by Bunny Schendler, Magda Segal and Syd Anstee & Alys Scott Hawkins of Claptrap Productions.
The idea to make this film came as a way of communicating the results of a study that showed many young people do this, risking both STIs and unplanned pregnancies – https://sti.bmj.com/content/83/1/68.abstract.
This is also an interesting aspect to consider when doing partner notification following positive results for STIs – often people believe they used a condom, but did they use it effectively?
