Motivational Interviewing Study Days 2021
- Saturday 24thApril
- Saturday 22nd May
We are delighted to announce that bookings are now open for our next Motivational Interviewing Study Days.
SSHA has been delivering highly successful MI study days since 2008. The study days are run by Motivational Interviewing SSHA trainers who have worked as Sexual Health Advisers.
What Is Motivational Interviewing (MI)?
Motivational Interviewing is a way of working that helps sexual health practitioners ‘come alongside’ and elicit an individual’s own reasons for change.
Assisting the practitioner to engage and reflect healthier sexual health choices and behaviour change.
For example, when the client feels:
- Ambivalent when considering taking medication such as antibiotics or ART.
- Need help in making decisions about contraception.
- Concerned that their level of risk taking for example recreational drugs or the sex they are having.
The aim of the study days is to enable staff with sexual health and HIV services (Sexual Health Advisers, Nurses, Doctors) to help patients within their service change behaviour using a Motivational Interviewing approach.
The training will be delivered live, via Zoom. This will include breakout room sessions, so there will be discussions and a chance to work together using the techniques with the trainers.
