Dorinda Thirlby started in Sexual Medicine/HIV in 1988, first as a nurse and then a Sexual Health Adviser. She has worked as Senior and Principal Health Adviser in 7 clinics in London and for the past 6 years as Health Adviser in Withington Sexual Medicine /HIV out patients in South Manchester. She is also a registered Integrative Psychotherapist.
She has in the past worked on SSHA council in different roles, was involved in the steering group and wrote chapters including work on motivational interviewing in the health advisers manual published in 2004. She was involved with the development of the SSHA NICE sub-committee to develop a national training programme for sexual health advisers and sexual health staff using a Motivational Interviewing approach to helping people reduce sexual risk.
