Revalidation for nurses and midwives – stakeholder summit – 20 March – London

March 13, 2014 By SSHA Leave a Comment

For all Sexual Health Advisers who are registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) please be aware that there is a current consultation being carried out on the revalidation of nurses.

It is important that Sexual Health Advisers with a nursing registration or Sexual Health Nurses providing a sexual health advising role respond the consultation in order to ensure that those working in sexual and reproductive health have their opinions taken in to account during this process.

The system of re-validation that will be adopted will contribute to the NMC core regulatory purpose which is the protection of the public when in the care of nurses and midwives. It would be important for all those responding to include the important local and national competency based training packages/programmes they have participated in so that the NMC will have an understanding that Sexual Health Advising care is provided on national competency based programmes which are built from recognised standards and protocols.

The Society of Sexual Health Advisers (SSHA) would recommend that all members take time to complete the consultation as the views of all staff within sexual health are important even though this about re-validation and those on the NMC register. We would also be grateful if you could cascade this through your local and national networks.

SSHA will also respond to the consultation and would be delighted to include any comments that members.

Unite are also holding a “Revalidation and Code review Stakeholder Summit” on the 20th of March 2014 in London which all members are invited to attend.

Best wishes,
Martin Murchie
