Burrell Street Health Adviser performs a Rapid HIV test on Prince Harry

July 14, 2016 By SSHA Leave a Comment

Robert Palmer, Health Adviser at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital tested Prince Harry live on social media in a bid to ‘normalise’ the procedure and bring greater awareness of the condition.

His visit was streamed live via the Royal Family’s Facebook page. The quick pin-prick test proved negative within a few minutes. The video was viewed by over 100,000 people within an hour of being posted and shared over 800 times.

As he waited for the test result to appear, Robert Palmer asked the Prince: “You all right?” and Harry replied “I’m OK”.

Mr Palmer said afterwards:

“He was anxious, he said so, but everything was all right in the end.”

Asked about the significance of a member of the Royal Family being tested for HIV, he said:

“It means this is a test for everybody – it doesn’t matter who you are, it’s a good idea to have an HIV test.”
